The Greyhound Tavern has offered down-home comfort food to Northern Kentuckians since the 1920s. The atmosphere is pleasantly country-fied, with wood paneling, vinyl tablecloths and multiple fireplaces, and so is the menu. The double-sided menu features cuisine from both countries, which have somewhat similar flavor profiles. If you’ve never eaten Ethiopian food, it’s kind of like Indian — both countries offer stew-style dishes consisting of ingredients like chicken, lentils, cabbage and lamb, but Ethiopian dishes also rely heavily on beef, which you won’t see in Indian cuisine. The restaurant also offers a genius daily lunch buffet with both styles of international eats for customers to mix, match and try a bit of both. Slap some saag on a plate with a little doro wat and see which you prefer.

The Grille at Palm Court

If you’re feeling fancy (and like you can eat $39.95-worth of crab legs), head to the Hilton Netherland Plaza for Sunday brunch at Palm Court. The giant display takes over the stunning Art Deco bar and grill space in the hotel with carved roasted meats, made-to-order omelets, salads, seafood, some version of eggs benedict, potatoes, breakfast meats, pastries, fancy cheeses, plenty of shrimp and crab claws and a 20-foot dessert spread. The offerings change weekly, but it’s always seasonally inspired, super fresh and real classy.

Amma’s serves only vegan and vegetarian Indian food, but you won’t miss the meat when the flavors are this complex and amazing. On Wednesdays, the lunch buffet offers a slew of vegan-only entrees. Features include familiar dishes like vegetable korma and chana masala, as well as unique items like the uthapams, a South Indian style pancake. Homemade breads include the puffy pillows of cooked dough called batura. They also carry Indo-Chinese dishes like the gobhi manchurian, a fried cauliflower dish smothered in a house made Manchurian sauce.

With so much to choose from, you may have to make some tough decisions. Be strong and choose wisely, this is a buffet where you can really hit the jackpot or have to tap out.
