SkyStar, the Cincinnati Riverfront's 15-Story Temporary Ferris Wheel

UPDATE: SkyStar extends its stay until the end of June 2019. SkyStar, a temporary 15-story "observation wheel" (aka Ferris Wheel), at The Banks downtown has extended its stay from Dec. 2 through the end of June 2019.

“In its short stay, SkyStar has already become a Greater Cincinnati tradition and a beautiful addition to Cincinnati’s skyline, “said Cynthia Oxley, director of Corporate and Community Events for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, in a press release. “We’re thrilled that America’s largest portable observation wheel is sticking around for Cincinnati’s spring events including Asian Food Fest and Taste of Cincinnati."

“More than 100,000 riders have enjoyed SkyStar during its Cincinnati visit,” added Todd Schneider of SkyStar in the same release. “The people of Cincinnati have been so warm and welcoming. We’re thrilled to stay another six months.”

The portable contraption has been traveling across America, setting up shop in cities including Norfolk, Va. and Louisville, Ky. to offer elevated views and a novel, pop-up tourism experience. According to a press release posted on cincinnatichamber.com, the 150-foot-high wheel is being erected to celebrate the 10th-anniversary of The Banks development. The wheel consists of 36 enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas, which can hold up to six passengers. The ride takes about 12 minutes and includes four revolutions. The wheel is open 4-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; noon-midnight Friday; 10 a.m.-midnight Saturday; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12.50. Skystar is located at 55 E. Freedom Way, Downtown.
