After being cooped up in your living room for months, sometimes you just need a change of scenery. Fortunately, Cincinnatians do not need to travel far to experience a couple of days of comfort and entertainment with a historic twist.
Located on the historic North Mass Avenue corridor in Indianapolis, Bottleworks District blends the past with the present. Almost 90 years ago, the five-block avenue was built as a Coca-Cola bottling plant and remained a main plant for the company until the early 1960s. Today, the district consists of theaters, restaurants, art galleries, a variety of independent, eclectic boutiques, the Bottleworks Hotel and more.
The renovated Bottleworks Hotel inhabits the top two floors of the Bottling Works administration building and includes 139 rooms and suites, a clubroom, dining options including a restaurant and bar, all contained within a restored and reimagined, elegant structure. The design of the hotel is a nod to Coca-Cola’s history, complete with a white terra-cotta exterior and a stairwell that resembles a vintage soda fountain.
The hotel rooms have been restored to seem as close to the original structure as possible and the lobby’s terrazzo floors, plaster detailing, ceramic tile, and brass Art Deco patterned doors set the tone for a compelling, relaxing escape from the day-to-day.
Rooms range in price from about $249 per night for a Classic King to about $699 for the Priestly Suite. For those seeking maximum luxury, the Pemberton Penthouse is the most expensive option coming in at $2,000.
Visitors can explore the district’s extensive food hall, The Garage, which occupies the former bottling plant’s original garage buildings. The marketplace includes more than 20 vendors, providing a space for craftsmen, culinary experts, and patrons to come together. In addition to regular vendors, The Garage also has three spaces for pop-up restaurants.

Since 2017, Hendricks Commercial Properties has been redeveloping the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant as Bottleworks District. The Bottleworks Hotel has been open since mid-December of 2020, and The Garage opened on Jan. 5. The full project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
