Ohio AltRock duo Twenty One Pilots performed for a fervent capacity crowd at U.S. Bank Arena on Oct. 22.
After an energetic opening set by AltPop band MisterWives, Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph took the stage for a night of musical and literal pyrotechnics, featuring a dazzling light show, explosions, confetti and high energy performances.
TØP performed much of their most recent album, last year's Trench, opening the night with a fiery version of the album's first single, "Jumpsuit." The pair spent time amongst their fans, with Joseph running and strutting through the crowd and Dun using the loyal followers up front as a makeshift drum riser for a solo drum segment that segued from a "Seven Nation Army" drum cover to the outro of the band's song "Morph," on which the drummer is name checked.
Other highlights included performances on a smaller second stage at the back of the arena's floor, where the duo played favorites like "Tear in My Heart" draped by a fluid LED chandelier that eventually surrounded them. TØP brought members of Misterwives out for "Fall Away" (from the lesser-known self-titled debut album) and a full band version of "Cut My Lip," complete with playful choreography.
The musicians' interaction with fans was constant and charming, bringing the spectacle down to ground-level basics. TØP provides one of the most enertaining live shows out of all of the artists who are able to tour arenas.
