A new addition to Over-the-Rhine's Elm Street will be opening soon: E19 Lounge Bar & Discothèque.

Founded by owner Richard Cooke, the organizer of Cincinnati's LGBTQ+ Tea Dance series, the nightclub and bar — located across from Rhinegeist — will open to the public on Oct. 4 with a special Sunday celebration kick-off.

Their original plans have shifted slightly, due to the pandemic. Tables have been spaced out and guests will need to be seated while inside the lounge. For the time being, there will be no dancing (except for in your chair, of course), however, Cooke says that they plan to host live entertainment, DJs and dance videos. Cooke also notes that they already have some exciting national and international acts lined up for the future.

Opening a nightclub during the pandemic is no easy feat, especially as Cooke's first venture into bar ownership, however he has had plenty of help from the community. Cooke says that the folks from 4EG and Thunderdome have provided guidelines for how to navigate the hospitality scene in the age of COVID, and they will be adhering to the CDC's coronavirus guidelines as well.

In a press release (pre-pandemic), Cooke described the forthcoming establishment as bringing together "high-caliber music, exceptional customer service, and top-notch entertainment in a beautiful, inspiring setting."

"Serving the LGBTQ+ community and our supporters, our vision is to make e|19 a much sought-after venue for this underserved community and provide a safe, diverse and inclusive entertainment space.”
