Phoenician Taverna
7944 Mason Montgomery Road
Fabulous Lebanese food in a Mason strip mall? Really? We were skeptical, too, until we were dragged out to Phoenician Taverna. Perfectly executed meze (small plates) — both hot and cold — are the way to go for a large group. Try the baba ghannouge, labneh or any of the shawarma. If you’re going carb free, make this your cheat night: the flatbread is to die for.

Mazunte
5207 Madison Road, Madisonville
An homage to the street food of Oaxaca, Mazunte’s dishes reflect the culinary diversity of the homes, markets and vendors of central and southern Mexico. Options range from pork or chorizo tacos with avocado salsa to chicken tamales in a corn husk with rajas and salsa verde and traditional pozole with hominy and red radish. A glass of horchata or agua de limon — or, let’s be real, sangria — is a must.
