If you're serious about making this life step, adopting a pet is very rewarding — for you and the pet that gets a new home. We've compiled a list of available pets from a few local adoption programs to help you on your mission of finding the pet that's right for you. "Don't tell him he's considered a senior because he's sure he's still a young pup and has the energy of a much younger dog. He's definitely not a couch potato! He loves to go for walks, gets along with small dogs but is very bossy with large dogs. He's fine with cats. He loves to lay on your lap but is content to find a soft spot to lay by himself. Dobby likes to be near you when you want to shower him with attention and is perfectly happy to entertain himself when you're busy. He's not destructive, is always happy and just wants a home to call his own."

"We took from a high kill shelter, here in Ohio. He joined us back in December in really rough shape. We are not sure, but who ever dumped him totally neglected our boy. He had tumors removed, all benign, a much needed dental ( only lost a few teeth) and a severe ear and skin infection. He has the best foster Mom and Dad that nursed him back to health. He lives with other dogs and enjoys trotting around the yard with them. One of his favorite things is hanging with man of the house. He is a gentle giant."

"Remy is a sweet, senior gentleman. He's a happy, lap dog that loves to burrow under the covers and snuggle up with his people. He's good about going outside to potty and uses potty pads on the coldest and hottest days. He is crate trained and will sleep quietly in his crate after protesting for a few minutes although he doesn't need to be crated and he prefers to sleep in bed close to his people or on his dog bed buried under lots of covers. Remy has a heart murmur and had an echocardiogram about a year ago. It showed that his heart is functioning well and he doesn't need any treatment at this time."

"She’s a senior poodle mix — very sweet. She loves to explore the yard and snuggle in bed. She's vision-impaired due to cataracts but does see some. She circles a lot in the house and yard as she wanders...She was extremely matted when she came into the shelter so she had to get shaved down. She had a dental with several extractions — she does not have a lot of teeth left but she still eats just fine! It takes some time for her to warm up and show personality but once she does, she's tail wags and happy girl for her people!"
