25 Adoptable Dogs & Cats Who Are Ready to Shower You With Unconditional Love

Have you been considering adopting a new furry pal? With dog-friendly coffee shops, bakeries, bars and parks, Cincinnati is a great place to be a pet owner. While there are many good boys and girls looking for their forever home, there's a lot to think about when making the decision to bring home a pet. What kind of breed is right for you and your lifestyle? What adoption agencies should you look at? If you're serious about making this life step, adopting a pet is very rewarding — for you and the pet that gets a new home. We've compiled a list of available pets from a few local adoption programs to help you on your mission of finding the pet that's right for you. This is just a small glimpse into each agency's list of adoptable pets. If you are interested in seeing what else they have to offer, visit their websites to learn more. Also, keep in mind that each program has their own application process and some take longer than others. If you'd like to help out the cause but aren't able to adopt right now, you can always donate to one of these rescues or a number of other local pet adoption organizations. *Some pets in the slideshow may have pending adoptions. Please contact the rescues for more info. **All caption information taken from pet listing.

Tuesday
Age: 5 Years / Breed: Papillon Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Little Hills of Kentucky Animal Rescue Inc.
"Tuesday is a 5 year old Papillion mix. She weighs 14 lbs. 7 oz. Tuesday does have some medical issues, but those don’t hold her back from enjoying life to its fullest, and she has a ton of life left in her. She loves to play with other dogs, and adores cuddle time. She rewards her foster Mom with tons of kisses everyday. She loves to play outside, but prefers to be inside more and on a lap. She is crate trained, and goes potty outside and on her potty pads inside. Tuesday’s favorite things are: chicken kabobs, squeaky toys, her people, and her fur friends. Tuesday would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time to show her all that love she needs to thrive. Tuesday will run lifting her back right leg due to what our specialist says is either an old injury or a congenital condition. Our specialist felt it was in Tuesday’s best interest to leave her leg as is, and continue her on her pain regimen (Tramadol and Carprophen) and joint supplements. Tuesday also has a cataract in her right eye, our specialist does not recommend surgery for it and feels her eyesight is great in her other eye. She requires a fenced yard."

Frito
Age: 10 Weeks / Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Sweet Dream House Rescue
”FRITO (male) and RUFFLES (female) are adorable heeler mix puppies looking for their furever homes. These little cuties are about 10 weeks old and so stinking adorable! We haven't seen parents, so we really aren't sure about adult size for these two, but heelers tend to be in the 30-40 lb range. However, there could be some larger breed mixed in, so if you need a precise adult size estimate, these may not be the puppies for you. We would prefer to find adopters with some herding dog breed experience (heeler, border collie, etc). They are beautiful dogs that need to be kept busy. They need physically fenced yards. Heelers may not be a good choice for homes with small children, as they may decide to herd the kids if they can't find any cattle. These pups will go to furever homes on a foster-to-adopt basis, adoptions will be finalized when all vetting covered in their adoption fee is completed. Frito and Ruffles will need to come back to us twice before their adoptions are finalized, so greater Cincinnati area adopters only please. Foster-to-adopt application at dreamhouserescue.org.”

Basil
Age: Puppy / Breed: Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Adoption First Animal Rescue - Kentucky
"Hi, my name is Basil. Like the spice, not Hazel. My foster mom always calls me Hazel, she can never remember my name. My mom also says that Im part duck, I have a bad habit of pooping everywhere. But, I have started pooping outside!!! I like to watch the other dogs do it first to make sure Im doing it right. Let me tell you about my self, I love to play with toys, and especially with other dogs. My favorite thing to do is eat. I am still working on boundaries, I like to take The other dogs food while they are eating. I dont think they like that much. Cuddling is not my favorite, Id rather play. The only time I sleep is at bed time. I like to play all day long. Im starting to like my cage more each day. I also enjoy taking a bath, but the water has to be warm. I am almost ready for my forever home. Please have patients with me, as I am still a puppy. I cant wait to find my forever home. Please visit www.adoptionfirstanimalrescueky.com for all information regarding adoption, fee, and application. No apartments or condos."

Paco
Age: 4 Years / Breed: Chiweenie / Sex: Male / Rescue: PawPrints Animal Rescue
"Hey everyone! My name is Paco and I'm what foster mom calls a Chi-weenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund). I'm 4 years old and a little guy, approximately 10 lbs. Foster mom says I'm super snuggly, whatever that means. I know I really like hanging out on the couch with her and I'll lay with my neck on her shoulder when given the chance. I don't like meeting new people because they scare me, but I become really attached to my one special person. For this reason, it's best I don't go out in public places because I may not be nice to the people I meet. I can be a little bit of a resource guarder when it comes to my foster mom, but she says it's easy to manage, so I'll take her word for it. My legs may be little but I love being outside and running to my heart's content. They say I'm very special in one way though, I love other dogs, especially the big ones! My favorite dog in my foster home is a very sweet 55 lb Pit Bull. I adore her! I sometimes run underneath her if something scares me. While I don't like being picked up, I listen well. I'm neutered, heartworm negative and up to date on vaccines. You can find an adoption application at www.pawprintsnky.com."

Joey
Age: 5 Months / Breed: Rat Terrier/Chihuahua Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Adoption First Animal Rescue - Kentucky
"Hi world, I am Joey. I am a special needs boy, who is looking for my forever home I am around 5 months old, my mom says I am a mutt of some sort. They did purchase a DNA test that will tell everyone just what I am! How neat is that?! I am around 15 pounds, and I dont think I will get much bigger, I am a petite guy. My metabolism is out of this world with all of my activity. So here is the deal, I know I am cute.. I know you want to kiss and love me but I am just not a normal puppy. I have a neurological condition that causes me to consistently spin. That means I will never be able to just walk into a pet store, or stay out of a kennel when you leave, or sleep in bed with you unless its very low to the ground. Safety is important with my condition. My mom lets me go outside by myself and play with all my friends, they are so much fun. They are so gentle with me and sometimes, I run in a straight line, especially to get back inside! I had an MRI done, and costed my rescue lots of money..hehe.. well that showed a change in my brain tissue on the right side of the brain. There is an area consistent with bleeding and loss of brain tissue. This is from a severe trauma, I wish I could tell you what happened to me. My doctors and specialist think that my condition will remain the same, with no improvement or declining. I do have loss of vision in both eyes, but mainly the left. Some of my absolute favorite things to do:
- Play outside with my friends
- Poop on moms floor
- Play with all of these fun toys
- Couch snuggles
- Car rides & meeting strangers
I am working on potty training, but honestly I may never be able to be fully potty trained. I do wear a wrap when playing inside because I pee & then spin in a circle creating a sprinkler. I require a home with patience, and unconditional love."

Richie
Age: 6-7 Years / Breed: English Bulldog / Sex: Male / Rescue: Queen City Bulldog Rescue
"Hi! My name is Richie (though I don’t seem to know that so any name you want to give me I would be happy with)! I’m a big boy who’s favorite activity is napping wherever my foster mom is. I especially like the bed and couch (the more blankets and pillows the better) and when excited will talk/howl to tell you all my feelings. I have a 6 month old foster sister who has been begging me to play but I’m just happy hanging out. We share food, water bowls and toys (though I don’t play with them) and have no aggression to any of these so far. I must have had a family before because I know to go to the bathroom outside and that there’s always good stuff when humans are sitting at a table eating. My foster mom said I have been very easy and whoever adopts me will be so lucky because I am the best cuddler."

Olivier
Age: 2.5 Years / Breed: Collie and Irish Setter / Sex: Male / Rescue: Dream House Rescue
”This gorgeous, exotic looking fellow is OLIVIER and he's looking for a furever home. We've been trying to figure out the breed mix on this guy, we believe he's part collie, with feathering like an Irish Setter. Who knows what else is in the mix but boy is he gorgeous. Olivier was surrendered because a new household member has severe allergies. He's very sweet, but so scared after losing his furever home. He's about 2.5 years old and is a bit overweight, currently about 75 lbs. With a proper diet and exercise he should be 65-70 lbs. Olivier is housebroken, crate trained, and his previous owner says he's fine with everybody -- dogs, cats, kids. He's best suited to a furever home with a fenced yard where he has room to run around. His gorgeous coat will require some grooming/upkeep to keep him from getting matted. If you'd like to meet Olivier, please fill out a foster-to-adopt application at dreamhouserescue.org."

Perdita
Age: 3 Years / Breed: Beagle Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Lucky Tales Rescue, Inc
"Hellooooo beautiful people, it's so very nice to meet you! My foster says I'm like royalty, so I have been working on my entran... uh... introduction. I'm Perdita and I'm a 3 year old, 35 lb. Beagle mix. I may not have as many spots as my namesake, but I'm just as beautiful (so my foster mom says and who am I to argue?) I came into rescue pregnant, and now that I'm almost done with being a mommy, I'm on the lookout for a perfect family to call my own. Soooooo, let's be honest, ok? I didn't have a great life before entering rescue. I wasn't treated well by men, so I don't trust them or people I don't know. End result? I'm very insecure, so I need a lot of reassurance that no one will hurt me again. Luckily, I'm not fearful in that I hide or cower, I'm actually quite outgoing once I know I can trust you. I'll need a family that understands me, is willing to take things slow, and gives me time to warm up to things. If there are men in my new home, kindness and patience will be critical to me learning how to trust them again. TBH, what I'd really benefit from is a quieter home with no youngsters and not a lot of people coming and going, it makes me more at ease and feel more confident. The other thing I want you to know is that I wasn't really around other dogs until just recently, so when introductions happen, I'm not so great at them. If my new home has other doggy friends, I'll need help being introduced to them, but I think having another dog to pal around with would be phenomenal! Now that we got all that stuff out of the way, let me tell you about my awesomeness! I'm completely house and crate trained, easy going in the house and I don't mess with or destroy things. I do great with cats and other dogs, they just need to be patient with me. I am extremely playful, always up for a good game of tug of war or fetch, and am straight-up silly. I loooooove to talk, roll around, kick the couch pillows all over the place, and I can get the zoomies at a moment's notice. When I click with my person, I will be a devoted shadow, following your every move, love you with every fiber in my being, and am always up to chill with you. I love sitting on your lap (no lie, I have spent hours laying on my foster's lap), and I love a good snuggle almost more than anything! On the flip side, I'm totally up for a good hike, an adventure, or just getting out and exploring so long as we're together! All you gotta do is ask and then it's game on! PS - despite me being a hound, I rarely bark, so don't worry about me being noisy. Overall, if you are looking for a snuggly, devoted, playful-as-all-get-out friend, look no further, because I am totally your girl!"

Snowfall
Age: 3 Years / Breed: Chihuahua Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue
"Hello there!! My name is Snowfall and I’m a 3 year old 10 lb chihuahua mix! My foster mom tells me I’m such a sweet girl!! This always makes me do a happy dance. I can’t wait to show off my best dance when I find my furever home! My foster mom says I’m doing a great job with potty and crate training. I’m starting to understand what a leash is for too. There’s cats and other small dogs here, but I pretty much keep to myself; however, I’ve been watching them play with toys and I think I’m getting the hang of it!! It’s pretty fun at my foster home, but I’m really hoping to find a family of my very own. I want to cuddle up on the couch with them! My adoption fee is $400.00."

Figaro
Age: Adult / Breed: Tuxedo / Sex: Male / Rescue: AAPCATS
"Figaro is a Grand Household pet in the Cat Fancy Association. He is now retired and looking for a home with someone who is home most of the time and will be able to give him the attention he loves. Figaro will be very shy and not the sweet cat we know right away. He would need to trust and adjust to a new life. Figaro is not fond of other cats that will intimidate him. It would be best to start as an only cat.
He likes to play with toys and eat treats."

Pup Pup
Age: 1.5 Years / Breed: Chow Chow / Sex: Male / Rescue: Save the Animals Foundation
"Pup Pup was one of five dogs surrendered by the same person to a crowded county shelter. The dogs had all been left outside, and neighbors complained about their barking. With this kind of start in life, it was no surprise that--upon his arrival at our shelter--Pup Pup had absolutely no idea how to walk on leash. But more importantly, he *did* know how to love and receive love from our volunteers. He's a sweet kid who had a rough start, but is ready for his second chance (INSIDE this time!) with a fun-loving family of his own."

Maximo
Age: 1 Year / Breed: Dachshund / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue
"Hi….I’m Maximo. I'm a one-year-old Dachshund weighing about 18lbs. I am a sweet boy that will require an experienced dog (preferably Dachshund) owner willing to seek professional training for me. I tend to not want to share things and need to be corrected immediately when doing something I shouldn’t. I would do best in an adult only home with a fenced yard and a structured environment that allows for plenty of mental stimulation and exercise. I am potty trained as long as you take me outside on a normal schedule. I am leash trained. I do love to bark and am very alert to strange sounds and voices. Like a typical Dachshund, I will destroy any toy within minutes. Once I know and trust you, I am very affectionate and love to give kisses and get pets. I am friendly with the other dogs in my foster home as long as there are no toys or food involved. My reaction to cats is unknown. I do need a patient, dog savvy owner who understands the importance of setting consistent limits, rules and boundaries. If you are willing to give me a chance, apply today. My adoption fee is $400."

Snowball
Age: Puppy / Breed: Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Sweet Dream House Rescue
”Sweet Snowball is one of 8 puppies born to Mamma Mia, a mixed breed boy who will be ready to ring in the new year in a new furever home. Mamma Mia is a 60 lb girl, probably a boxer mix, we have no idea what breed daddy may have been. As daddy's breed is unknown, we can't predict precisely how big Snowball may be when he's fully grown. Maybe 60 lbs? Maybe smaller, maybe bigger. Snowball will be ready to go to his new home on New Year's Eve. He will go home on a foster to adopt basis. His adoption will be finalized when all vetting covered in his adoption fee is completed. Our puppy adoption fee covers spay/neuter surgery, microchip, age-appropriate vaccines and any other needed veterinary care. Greater Cincinnati adopters only, please, within a 1 hour drive of PetSmart Eastgate. We need to keep these puppies local in order to facilitate veterinary followups. If you are interested in adopting Snowball, please fill out a foster-to-adopt application at dreamhouserescue.org.”

Zelda
Age: 6 Months Old / Breed: Great Pyrenees Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Big Fluffy Dog Rescue
"Meet Zelda! She is a 6-month-old fluffylicious Great Pyrenees puppy looking for her forever home. Zelda is a super social, playful, sweet, and smart puppy who will need a home that understands that puppies are puppies and she will need help and patience with teaching her how to be a good dog. Zelda has a hemophiliac-type bleeding disorder so if she has a bleeding-type injury, she needs a trip to the vet for a plasma transfusion. We are looking for a home for her without other dogs (or super chill dogs) to minimize the risk of injury. Zelda is working on her potty training and leash walking, but she is crate trained. Zelda will also need someone with Great Pyrenees or Livestock Guardian Dog experience, (this does not include experience with large dogs) and a fenced yard. She is also not a candidate for apartment or condo living. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at https://bigfluffydogs.com/adopt/adoption-application/ then email Debbie@BigFluffyDogs.com."

Tinsel
Age: 13 Weeks / Breed: Hound Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Lucky Tales Rescue, Inc
"My name is Tinsel. I'm 13 weeks old now and Lucky Tales isn't really sure about my breed, but they think I might have a little hound, a little shepherd, or maybe even some springer spaniel. I'm the most adventurous and nosy puppy of all my siblings. There's so much to learn from life and I'm always up for a good time. Just call me Tinsel the Explorer! I'm also learning that games are fun, tug of war is my favorite, that people love the color of my eyes, and that giving kisses is practically the BEST thing EVER. I will cross the ocean, climb the highest mountain, drive across the country - whatever it takes in order to give kisses."
